Google Issues Important Security Updates for Chrome on Windows, Mac, Android and iOS

Google for the past two weeks has been rolling out several security updates for users of its Chrome web browser, addressing a plurality of vulnerabilities before attackers could exploit them.

The web giant this month promoted the Chrome Stable channel to version 122 on all supported platforms. In a series of security-focused updates, Google has been rolling out patches for vulnerabilities that motivated attackers could exploit to compromise users’ security and privacy.

Almost a dozen bugs were addressed across three separate releases, some of which have been labeled high-risk flaws by Google’s development team.

The latest release – version 122.0.6261.94 for Mac and Linux and version 122.0.6261.94/.95 for Windows – focuses squarely on fixing two type confusion flaws in the browser’s V8 JavaScript engine – both labeled High in terms of severity if exploited.

Chrome for Android, also promoted to version 122 this month, packs the same fixes as its desktop counterpart.

The iOS version for Apple customers, which hasn’t been updated in a while, has also reached version 122 but only packs the usual “stability and performance improvements – meaning nothing too serious was addressed this time in Chrome for iPhone and iPad owners.

Unpatched Chrome bugs have been leveraged by spyware operators in recent times, making it all the more important to deploy the latest security patches issued by the mothership in Mountain View, California.

Considering the rapid succession of security updates issued by Google, Bitdefender strongly recommends that Chrome users deploy the latest update sooner rather than later, to close any potential window that a motivated attacker might exploit.

As always, Bitdefender strongly recommends that netizens keep all their devices and software updated at all times, to reduce the attack surface. For peace of mind, consider using a dedicated security solution both on your computer and on your phone.
